Dinner at McKinney

2008.06.28
At McKinney's historic town square. The place appears to be undergoing restoration. While it is quite similar to Carrollton's historic downtown, McKinney has a lot more interesting and quirky little shops selling fine arts, antiques and books.

Not as glamorous as Singapore's "Prime Society", but I supposed it has a bit more "character".

We had dinner at Mama Emilia's (119 W Virginia St, McKinney, TX 75069). Mama Emilia's resides in a building that was previously a hotel in the 1900s. The restaurant was impressively decorated with classy booths, tall ceilings, brick walls, dark wood floors and curly brass chandeliers. Definitely a stark contrast to the rather rundown surrounding outside the restaurant.

Freshly baked foccacia bread.

I really enjoyed my main course - pork osso bucco. The pork shanks were braised to moist tenderness, and well accompained with the cabernet glaze. The mushroom risotto was also well flavored with a hint of the cabernet.

Minghao had the fetuccine tetrazzini - garlic cream pasta with grilled chicken and prosciutto. It would be a bit too creamy and salty for me to finish the entire serving. That said, it was still much better than what other restaurants serve, and Minghao, who has a preference for strong and heavy flavors, really liked it.

To end off, we shared the quintessential italian dessert tiramisu. It was very rich and creamy! And, having just finished off an appetizier (entree comes with soup/salad), we really couldn't manage the entire dessert and had to pack it after a few mouths.

Mama Emilia's is certainly one of best italian restaurants I had in Texas so far. It is quite affordable too - $60 for appetizers, entrees, dessert, a glass of wine and tip! Plus, there are crayons for doodling! :D

Unfortunately, it is a good 45 minutes drive from home. I guess there is now one more reason to visit the Allen Premium Factory Outlet, just a few minutes away from the restaurant, more regularly ;)
