Wedding Anniversary

2008.06.30
So, to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, I got to choose the restaurant to go to :) Hence, on Sunday, we went to the Mansion Restaurant, supposedly one of the finest restaurants in Dallas. We even got a card from them.. (maybe I should have booked it under the name "Liao"...)

I was somewhat disappointed when I was told that the restaurant was only serving brunch on Sunday afternoon. I guess, I should never have used the online reservation service. I wasn't told about that! I was so not looking forward to eating eggs :( Luckily, there were still some items on the menu that were not very brunch-ish.

Well, at least we got nice jams and breads (scones and all) because of the brunch.

Chilled soup of English peas with mango crab salad. Super refreshing.

Pan-seared diver scallops, sea infused miso consommé, coconut green curry nage, dried seaweed, sea bean, tofu and edamame.

The scallops were really good - sweet and succulent.

Minghao's filet mignon with roasted potatoes and poach eggs. It was pretty ok, nothing spectacular, but at least the beef was tender and cooked medium rare, the way we wanted.

We had originally wanted the mango dessert, but alas, they ran out of mangoes :(. So, we had the lemon dessert - lemon verbena pound cake, frozen lemon soufflé, lemon curd, crispy meringue and lemon ice cream. A dessert well suited for the hot summer weather.

And on the day itself, I made dinner :) That's the menu (er, we do not have a printer, hence had to resort to writing it :D)

Chilled avocado soup with scallops and truffle oil. Heh, I got the inspiration from the soup we had at the Mansion.

I was rather disappointed with the fish. It was rather dry and blant. Sigh, perhaps I should have sliced it and just pan seared it instead.

The best dish of the night :) I was rather pleased with the result, and super pleased with the blow torch we got recently. Finally a dessert dish that I can be proud of :) Minghao actually thought that it was restaurant-standard. Maybe I can just set up a cafe to sell creme brulee - white chocolate raspberry, chocolate, orange pecans, cherries, etc.

Flowers, cat and card!

The cat eating creme brulee ;)
