Independence Weekend

2008.07.05
We had an ultra long weekend, starting from Thursday since Mingaho had an off-day then. So we had lunch at the historic Bishop Arts District at downtown Dallas. It is quite a cool neighborhood with a decent selection of restaurants, handful of quirky and funky boutiques and a few art galleries.

Lunch was at the Tilman's Roadhouse, which serves Texas food with a modern twist.

Minghao had the smoked brisket quesadilla, and I had the chicken fried hanger steak. Both were pretty good dishes. I had really wanted to order their foie gras-sirloin burger on their dinner menu. Pity I couldn't order that during lunch time ;(

After Bishop Arts District, we went to Knox-Henderson, a more modern and upmaket square. After window-shopping at the Apple store and a few atas furniture stores, we stopped by La Duni, a Latin cafe, for dessert.

The yummy cuatro leches cake. (I also found out that they served pretty good savory dishes during my subsequent with Peishan later in the week.)

On July 4th, we went to Lake Grapevine for fireworks :) It was so nice to be near a large body of water. I miss my lakeview apartment in Chicago!

Haha, that's Minghao feeling miserable about our small little beach towel and scanty food supply in comparison with all the others around us :D

I am not very good with taking photos of fireworks (our camera does not allow us to adjust the aperture and shutter speeds).. they all turned out looking like jellyfish.

On Saturday, we had a BBQ party with the other Singaporeans by the pool :) That's our newly purchased gas grill being put to good use at the party :D Hah, I am certainly looking forward to my bbq-ing and grilling at my balcony.
