Geysers
2008.10.02
We spent almost the entire second day breathing in the rotten-egg smell of the hydrogen sulpfide emitted by the hot springs and geysers. So, while it was a pretty sight, seeing smoke or water rising and shooting from the ground and springs, it was at times rather unbearable for the nose ;D
This is at the West Thumb Geyser basin.

This geyser basin is much smaller than the other geyser basins in the Yellowstone, but it is certainly one of the prettiest as its location along the shore of the Yellowstone Lake gives it a more scenic edge. Hah, from our recollection, it was also the least smelly of all.

The Old Faithful! To be honest, we were slightly disappointed with the Old Faithful. I guess it just didn't seem that spectacular. I suppose, it really is more known for its predictability rather than its grandeur.

The morning glory pool. I don't think the photo does justice to it. The colors are a lot more impressive in reality. Apparently, those colors are due to bacteria which inhabit the water, but people have been turning it into a wishing well (haha), thus clogging up the entryways and affecting its beauty.

Norris Geyser Basin. We were dead beaten by then, and so feeling sick of the rotten egg smell, we decided not to venture too far into the broadwalk.

We saw lots of elks around the Mammoth Hot Spring area on our way to our hotel in Gardiner. Apparently they have all migrated to that area during their mating season (now) due to the plentiful green grasses there.
