Playing with light

Getting back into the groove... it's always hard to keep up with that. My challenge this week for myself was to figure out how to put light on a page of Moby Dick from a candle. Now, that was indeed a challenge! I used my mag beam (mag mod — an eternal black hole into your wallet for accessories!!!) and I tried to get what I might. Did I succeed? I dunno. I tried every conceivable angle, had a rum and coke and said to myself, there's more to learn tomorrow! I don't get any benefit from promoting anything like Magmod.. geez, I wish that were so.... I'm kind of infatuated with it and watching it eat my budget, but it is an interesting lighting system. This is the mag beam slit trying to aim it at the page. The only post was to raise the darks in curves, that's all.... did it work? I think the best way to approach this subject would have been easier and cheaper... paint with a pen light to get the light to go where I wanted it to. The background was something I painted with a great deal of pain and agony on to a piece of plywood. I swore I would never paint another. Next time, will see if I can purchase something cheaply or come up with a better alternative. I love "dark" art. I just need a little more light here and there.

Ditto to Sherry's comment. And your Moby Dick must be antique.

Love #2. Colors and light are perfect for me. The angle of your eternal budget eater is perfect. Glad you are getting back into the groove.

Very nice shots. I like #2, although the top of the lantern is a little bright. The background and book are lit nicely.

Thank you. It was and still remains a challenge until the next time that I try this.
