A Clockwork Broken

A happy little accident a few days ago led to todays photo. What you are looking at is the inner workings of a kitchen timer-and the remains of my failed attempt at being frugal.

The story goes something like this: said kitchen timer decided to quit working last week. It quite possibly gave up it's tick due to an ill-fated attack of gravity; or it could be due to simple overuse.

Regardless, I thought that I, in a fit of cheapness could fix it, so I commenced to disassembling the device with a screwdriver. When the last screw came out and the cover removed, the innards flew out rather violently! I knew right then that I'd been defeated.

But all was not lost, for while cleaning up the results of my handiwork I came upon these three pieces of the puzzle. I found them completely captivating and worthy of being photographed. I also learned a valuable lesson: never waste an hour trying to fix something that you only paid three bucks for-unless of course there is a chance of a good photo :-)

Reminds me of the time I took my clockwork movie camera apart. A very sad moment because at the exact moment the spring launched itself to freedom I realised that the problem was not in that bit of the camera. I put it on my mantlepiece as an ornament/memorial. (not in this pic must have happened afterwards)

It's one thing to have an amusing anecdote, but to have an interesting photo with awesome composition to go with it is fantastic.
