Trail Day

The Cumberland Trail was a rather cold spot to be today, but I was there none the less. I pretty much left after work and on a whim, in hopes of making it up the first peak which ascends nearly one thousand feet within the first mile of walking.

It didn't take long for me to realize that this short walk along the rocky spine of my local mountains was the most important thing I would do today. With each step I could feel the stress of too much work, noisy society and the tension of being idle for too long fall away. Everything was so good-just to be alive and see today as a gift instead of just another bout of hellish redundancy was bliss.

Aye, today I'm smiling from the inside and you know what? It feels great!

That is a wonderful perspective on your hike, it is a blessing to be alive and to walk in a beautiful place like that, and to get away from the stress...

Hellish redundancy - what an excellent phrase!
Happy to see you out there in your mountains before darkness fell...
