I'm the official (and also ‘only’…) photographer for my brother wedding betrothal ceremony. The colourful betrothal gifts presented great photos opportunities.

#1 Betrothal Gifts - Canned Pork
The traditional roasted pig have given way to the readily available canned pork. Convenience in the modern world.

#2 Betrothal Gifts - Brandy
The groom side will give the bride side 2 bottles of brandy. The bride side will in return give either 2 bottles of wine or orange syrup.

#4 Betrothal Gifts - Red packaging
Chinese just love red.

#5 Contemporary Wedding Cake Box
Gone are the days when we have those old-fashion wedding boxes with the chinese “double-happiness” insribed on it. Nowadays we have these trendy boxes instead!

#6 Multi-tiered wedding basket

#7 Betrothal red cloth
Don't know exactly what this cloth means, but it a tradition that's being passed down. Symbol of blessing to the new couple perharps.

#8 Wedding is expensive
Wedding is an expensive affair.

#9 Multi-tiered wedding basket

The betrothal gifts are packed in a multi-tiered wedding basket that is borrowed from a chinese wedding cake shop and typically include:

- western and chinese wedding cakes,
- two bottles of brandy,
- even numbered of tangerines or oranges,
- peanut candies for a teochew bride and rice candies for a hokkien bride,
- at least six tins of canned pork legs or a whole roast pig for cantonese bride,
- betrothal jewellery from the groom’s parents to the bride.

It's very interesting ! I had no idea that there was so many gift in Chinese marriage (come to think of it, I don't really now if there is a lot of gifts or not in French marriage !). Red is a nice color, it's my favorite !
