Video Production and Photography is what I teach for a living, it's one of my passions and I've been doing it for awhile now. Last week I was tasked with creating my own Cinemagraph, an assignment which lives in the intersection of video and photography. I pulled into the parking lot of the school I teach in. And there was this steam coming from the roof of the building.
When the time came to finish up the cinemagraph, I realized the subject worked best in black and white. There was something about that white cloud that kept breathing even through the rest of the world was in stark black and white. It's a metaphor that I will forever work in. It's me trying to find light in a dark place, it's the struggle for peace of mind at a time in society that offers no easy answers. But the breath, the breath is the life force, the spirit through which all living things exist. And if I can focus on that breath, coming in and out forever, then perhaps I will be able to see the full color spectrum of the world.
