They say a photo is worth a thousand words but...

With words, you can add context and tell a story. To edit words, simply select them and choose bold, italic, or add links. You can also style words as headers, lists, or quotes. You can perform all these edits via keyboard shortcuts as well.

PhotoBlog's value is in its network but they also have a great editor that let you be creative!
Did you know that on average readers read photo caption text 66% more than the article text? The reason is simple, they grab the user's attention because they are right next to your photos.

This is one of the most confusing photo sites I've ever been on. Every time I click Post (which I assume means to post one of my images) I'm directed to a page that details Basic & Pro. That's it, no ability to post anything.

Awesome! I have always loved taking pictures. My dad had a Polaroid from back in the day which I still. He also had the old school manual Pentax which my last son is crazy about but uses it as a club so I had to hide it. I love taking photographs.

Just tried my first post. A short sentence with a photo of 150KB, still waiting with message:

Uploading in progress.... Please leave this window open and stay on this page. This process could take a while, especially if you are uploading large photographs. To continue using the site during this upload, you can use a new window.

after 15min. Should it take this long?

Hello Quang, We just released a fix to this issue. I think this is happening because the uploaded image is less than 600px wide. This is should now show you a proper error message rather than a upload freeze. Please let me know if you still get the upload freeze issue. Thanks again for providing feedback!

Just retried with a photo 1200 x px, of 830KB. Still the same error message "Uploading in progress.... Please leave this window open and stay on this page. This process could take a while, especially if you are uploading large photographs. To continue using the site during this upload, you can use a new window."

Do the photos have to be at least 2048 pixels long/high?

Hello Floyd,
To be honest it is hard to allow customization of this page if we want to keep a standard design for the platform. As we progress more, we will think about customizations that will not break our existing design frames.

Baptria 4 years, 12 months ago

Hi.
The new layout is great and you have done amazing job by developing it all these years. Back in 2007 I decided to join Photoblog for two reasons: you had a calendar view and option to set the publishing date freely. This gave me the possibility to upload images when I have time to do it and at the same time keep my blog still as a diary... Most platforms allow only blog with current date. The first reason is in a way still there but I have not figured out how set a specific date for my blog post?

4 years, 12 months ago Edited
Ram Ya Replied to Baptria 4 years, 12 months ago

@Baptria I am actively seeking a solution to this custom date feature. The reason it was delayed so far is because spammers used to hide their posts using this feature. I will implement this soon just need to think of a solution to prevent spammers using this. Do you have any suggestions or idea?

Ram Ya Replied to Phil Child 5 years ago

@Phil There is no limit to the amount of space a blog can take (free or pro). It seems like you have hit a known bug in our editor. It seems your cursor keeps jumping to images as they are processed/finalized by the backend. We are currently working on a fix to this issue.

Can you update me the URL of the affected post?
Thanks.

hello ram

since this is a PHOTOblog, you might want to consider making the function to add images a little more intuitive. at the moment, it's just a normal word in the row of the editng functions, and frankly... that reminds me all too much of the old WYSIWYG editors i've seen on countless content editing tools.

i'd recommend to make this a BOLD, BIG, SPARKLING BUTTON very much outside the text tools. it should be an eye catcher and the first thing people see. it should also read "UPLOAD PIC" or something, but not image (few people nowadays speak of images anyway, it's just pics). i am guessing that many of your previous users here stumble about this editor - and the new 4 mandatory fields. for a photoblog, you've done a lot to emphasize text editing here... and almost made it a side effect" that there's actually pictures to be loaded.

cheers

Not sure how long ago today you left this comment but I swear I was just looking at this "image' link in Editor just now. We were talking about how we should probably make it a button! Will do an update soon.

Hi Micheal,

Thanks again for this suggestion. We have switched the editor's menu options to icons now. I think this makes the options instantly recognizable. Please check it and let me know what you think.

Thanks again for the feedback.

5 years ago Edited
Stormfish Replied to Ram Ya 5 years ago

hello ram,

you changed from "image" to an icon, which is a good step. thanks for that! :-)

however, to my tired old eyes, it still looks a bit hidden (even more now maybe because I'm a "wordy" guy), because frankly, that icon isn't very BIG; SPARKLING and BOLD... ;-)

my suggestion above was more about making the "upload image" function entirely standing out of the other editing functions here - i.e. to place it differently in the GUI, for example, as a 300% BIGGER button at the beginning of the menu and/or change the color to bright red and/or make it flashing or animated so it immediately jumps into your eye this is the MAIN function of the editor page. i'm guessing this is what most users want when they post a "new story" - uploading their pictures, regardless of any text and editing.

sorry for the misunderstanding. let me know if this helps.

cheers
michael

Hi Rom It's amazing the work you & group did so far. Now it's been at 20 minutes that I'm trying to reply some comment and nothing happens. Maybe you should have a section (unless there's one & I did not find it yet) where when there is an issue it should be known to the people. OK this is just an idea.

I really love the clean look. It has taken me a while to get used to the new formatting but I like the flexibility and options. Some observations that are more problematic.
There is a typo on the watermark page, "Upgrade you account" instead of "Upgrade your account."
I have not yet found a way to change the order of photos. Many times the photos load in a different order than I choose when I upload a batch at once.
Also, Formatting the heading to a blog post: I tried numerous times to get my title to use two lines but until the last effort a word was invariably cut in half between the first and second line.
Why am I posting this here? when I tried the "feedback" button my Firefox browser crashed.
So, great new design, just a couple buggy things to work on but for sure you guys are on the right track. Thank you so much for you labor!!

Hello Michael, I really appreciate the feedback.

1. I have fixed the spelling mistake and it will be pushed soon
2. At the moment batch uploads are not supported but this is something we plan to do in the future. Perhaps even making a collage automatically when uploading multiple photos. I will keep you posted on those developments.
3. We have fixed this word cut-off bug and it will be pushed to the production server early next week, it will fix the existing post titles as well.
4. Feedback button/forum is temporary until we develop a forum for the site. Thanks for letting me know about the crash issue there.

I am glad to hear any other feedback you may have. Thanks again.

Loving the new style! But having used the blog for 8 years (gulp!) it's been really useful in the past to search by date (I use the blog as a diary for our family and liked to post images by date taken) - EG today I've uploaded a week's load of pictures and they all say 'posted 12 July' but they represent many days from the past week. Will it be possible to amend the 'date posted?' information? Other than that, it's superb! Mel
