by Ram Ya August. 28, 2016 7059 views

It’s been a busy few weeks in terms of product development and site’s progress. During last few weeks, we have seen an increasing number of posts per day. It always encourages the team to see these stats and engagement from members. So thank you for your participation and suggesting features!

Here is a list of features we released (some will be released on Monday, August 29th)

  1. Added the ability to edit your own comments
  2. Alphabetical sorting of member’s followers/followees
  3. Updated site’s search function to include tags
  4. Fixed duplicate photo issue in user’s favorites collection
  5. Added Google+ as a "member's other links" entry
  6. Fixed numerous bugs with formatting posts (Editor)
  7. Added a chat function in Editor Page to report bugs. Chat icon is located on the lower right side. Please use this to reach us if you encounter any bugs while posting.
  8. Added SEO improvements (google sitemaps, structured data) and site security improvements (mass account prevention)

As always, please comment your ideas and feedback. We would love to hear more from new users who are joining us. How can we help you in your storytelling, discovery, and audience building?

Looking up. Downtown Toronto, Canada.

I took above photo while going to St' Lawrence market to participate in this week's weekly theme "Local Markets". Sometimes it feels like this when running PhotoBlog where you have the additional complexity of multiple blogs within the site. The important thing to remember is that we can only climb one step at a time.

Thanks all

glad to hear about the updates, hopefully they will help but there is little engagement like there used to be. When I first started in the spring of 2010 I never had a post without any comments, and that is when I had few PB friends, now there is many times I post and get no comments, if there is little engagement why keep posting? Not sure these new people understand it is a give and take kind of thing.

Hi Becky,

Really appreciate the input.

I think we have lost a lot of people over the last decade due to the abandonment of the site. This explains the decreasing engagement over the years. On top of that, we have lost few people while turning things around and making photo blog a more civilized place (rules, directions, guidelines...etc).

I think we have a lot of hope because new people are joining daily but as you said they may not be familiar with the community we have. Maybe they haven't made enough connections to feel welcome to comment. I will think of new ideas to build this engagement over the coming months. We could really use a community manager's help in this regard. I think the point system could also help because it is fun to participate as a group and collect things.

I always try to make connections with new people. So far they always reply to comments or follow me back. I think if we keep doing that, the system will allow a lot of connections to foster here. Please feel free to suggest ideas you have in this regard.

...and you've lost many the old photobloggers - when you change old to new photoblog.Ane these old photobloggers creat the mood here. Quality of pictures are important but not the most! Now - photoblog has pictures, but not friendship between the people here. Great pity - I lost many of my old friiends here. I'm not suprised they have left this ste. No comments, no views. So no sence to post pictures.... new photoblog :(

Not only the site design changed but also the direction changed. As far as I know 4 people have left,1 due to having to put a tag, other 3 because they couldn't post adult images. If I try to please all, I think photo blog will serve no one.

To be honest, you can not run a site with 10 people. We had lost so many ( more than 80%) of users due to site abandonment and no moderation from previous owners in the last 10 years. Photoblog will continue to evolve and improve because if we stay with the 2006 version we are 100% destined for failure.

I have made a lot of connections with the new users by commenting on their posts. Have you tried that? I think if we only comment on our friends, it is not easy to make new friends. Just like you made old friends, you can make new friends if you so wish.

Love the perspective in this image! Even, kind of made me dizzy.....(((grin)))
Mono works so well, showing the subtle gradations of dark to light, as we "climb the stairs" to the roofs. Makes for an interesting abstract image, as well....
Thank YOU, Ram, for your tireless, and many times thankless, efforts to make PB better, all the time! Hats off to you my friend! Bravo!
