Black Swan on Worthington Lake

by Adrian Morris May. 05, 2021 185 views

I strayed just a few miles from home today; but I wondered if I'd got completely lost and ended up in Australia when I saw this black swan. Wothington Lake is a local beauty spot but it is not a bird sanctury so the bird is not in captivity. It must be an escapee.

HI Adrian,
There used to be (at least) one at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. I understood they were native to Australia (presumably brought here to be kept in parks etc).

I believe there are many in captivity in this country, but the one at Worthington was free.

Oh, the black swan brings back some memories. It is kind of wonderful to see such a majestic bird beeing majestic in all of its colors. Great capture.
