Elderflowers - more white hedgerow flowers

by Adrian Morris June. 17, 2021 162 views

I have previously posted pictures of blackthorn and hawthorn flowers. Here are some more similar white, hedgerow blossoms. All three species closely resemble each other, but the leaves are different and they flower at different times.
In the past I have made a delicious wine from elderflowers.

I believe the quality of the wine varies with the flowers from different trees. In other words, the flowers from some trees make good wine and the flowers from others, even though they are the same species, make poorer wine. Seems odd, but apparently it's true.

There's some tall ones next door overhanging our garden. They drop their flowers in our hot tub and berries on the decking angry Many years ago an Aunt used to make a really nice sparkling wine (we called it champagne!) from the flowers. I have done it as well but hers was way better.

You should, Adrian, you should smile The only problem, at least in Flanders, is that there's close to no chance they are good at the same moment. But it's an English recipe, so I guess that problem is non-existing on the island smile
