Michaelmas Daisies

Michaelmas, a celebration of St Michael the archangel, occurs on the 30th of September. Michaelmas daisies, aster amellus, are so named because they are said to flower at about this time. However, they don’t always adhere to this time scale. On the 7th September this year I uploaded some pictures of michaelmas daisies which were growing wild near where I live. see here Even though this was before the due date, the blossoms were past their best and must have emerged some time earlier. The flowers in our garden, though, are at their best today, 26th September, just three days before michaelmas. Also, I posted some michaelmas daisy pictures on this day last year, so, in our garden at least, they seem to be flowering consistently. see here

Thank you David. The soft, early autumn light added considerably to the photo.
