During my 4th day in Vietnam I took a cooking class. Part of that experience was to go to a local neighborhood market and buy our ingredients. I enjoyed it so much I'm making post just from the one market trip.
The market seemed to be organized with the fruit and some sea food outside, and the meat and veggies inside the building.
My job at the market was to get the quail eggs. I almost got the wrong ones! The eggs I pointed to (in the white basket) were the eggs that had baby chicks in them, used for a different dish.
Now that we have all the ingredients, just a few more shots of the market place:
Yes, it is common for people to drive their bikes everywhere. Right up to stands to buy what they need and keep going.
I hope you were able to see why I enjoyed the market so much! Everyone was so kind and willing to try to undersatnd us while we muddled through our 5-min Vietnamese.
