We set our alarms for 4.00am Christmas eve, the only other thing awake at this time was the crickets. We quickly stumbled out of bed and into the shower to get ready to go to the temples, wearing shorts on Christmas day just sounds weird.
We had arranged our pick up the day before with our local Tuk Tuk driver who was overly keen to show us the wonders of Siem Reap.
The Tuk Tuk ride to the temples was much quitter than the usual hustle of bustle of the dusty streets of Siem Reap. As we get closer and closer to the temples we find ourselves in nothing but complete darkness, only a flash light to lead the way.
I had no idea what to expect, you couldn't even see in front of your nose but some how I could sense I was walking over water, as we got closer to the crowds, people starting to form around what looked like a lake, I think I found the perfect spot. I stood there patiently waiting for the sun to rise so I could finally see what all the fuss was about.
The first little glimpse of pink sky reminded me of Turkish delight, slowly the sun starting to appear of the tips on the temple, I could hear the slight sound of people starting to murmur, flashing camera lights, gasps, ooooooo's, and ahhhsss in the distance and here she was....Angkor Wat!
What a perfect way to spend Christmas day 2017!
