Freedom To Roam

Being a motorbike rider, I didn't have any fear of riding a scooter on the Amalfi Coast. As a matter of fact, I found it to be more of a challenge.
Can I ride like the locals? Oh yeah! Follow them and learn. Then...
This was great! No more waiting for buses. No more schedules. No more hurrying through attractions so we can catch the last bus. It really gave us the freedom to roam where and when we wanted for as long as we wanted.
The real adventure began!

Positano, Italy

Positano, Italy

This was our starting point every morning. With a view like this, it was hard to leave. But many adventures awaited our journeys.

This is a view that can be reached by bus but from our apartment, the bus ride would have been well over 4 hours. Fortunately, we were able to stop on the side of the rode and leisurely get the photograph we wanted.

The buses only slow down here but they do not stop.
This beautiful place is a dream! Every year we find more and more people on this little secluded beach. With only about 3 hours of sunlight during the day, tourists flock here for a chance to lay on the beach. Behind the camera there have been many Italian films made here. You will also find an abandoned paper mill with a little exploring.

Amalfi

Taking some alternate roads, we were able to quickly get to the top of the mountains and go for a little hike, away from tourists. We were surprised to find out where we were. Below we could see the town of Amalfi. One of the main attractions of the Amalfi Coast. In my opinion, it is severely overcrowded with tourists and I lost all interest in it. I usually skip past this town to get to the smaller ones. If you must go, find out when the cruise ships are in port and schedule a different day. It is a beautiful city but go early and leave. Just my recommendation.

On the same mountain top, but looking to the left, you will find the quaint little town of Atrani. Much more pleasant to visit than Amalfi, this little gem is only a few kilometres down the coast from Amalfi. The food is better, the people more relaxed and friendly and it is much cleaner. One of my top pics for visiting.
The entry from the main road is tricky to find and the parking is very limited for tourists but it is very worth it!
