What a brilliant day! Spent the day getting lost, chattering with my new friends, enjoying time away from the frenzy of the European side of Istanbul & of course eating well…very well.

I love the Kadıköy area…it's a wonderful view of local life & it was nice not have someone yell at us every few feet to eat at a particular restaurant. Bought some small souvenirs & nice not to have to haggle, as the price was perfect.

And as always, it's fabulous to find fellow travellers who are curious & engaging & have a wicked sense of humour! I am looking forward to coming back;0)

Found this random bike as we got lost meandering around. Good walk though, saw a lot of locals going about their daily lives & we were the only English speakers! Way cool!

The cook saw me photographing the food & stopped to pose for a second…I think he was inviting us in to eat at the restaurant;0)

So beautiful…this was a little hidden gem that we would never have found if we didn't get lost. It was a bit too expensive to eat here, but the outdoor garden was just so lovely. Perhaps one day!

Haydarpaşa Garı

Gorgeous train station! The funniest thing happened when we were inside photographing. A large Japanese tour group happened to be here & the security guard very happily shook hands & took photos with each of them. Hilarious for us to watch - and it looked like everyone was having a good time!

Dinner at Ciya Sofrasi [ciya.com.tr]

This was the most delicious meal for my two weeks of travel! It was recommended by the morning cook at our hostel & was very highly recommended. For excellent reasons! The food was fresh & just amazingly tasty. Again, I think we were the only English speakers there & the place filled up fairly quickly after we found ourselves a seat. Here's a small list of what I remember us eating:

Chickpea soup
Lentil soup
Some sort of creamy yogurt soup
Stuffed artichoke
Turkish meatballs
Bulgar rice
Dolmas (which I absolutely love!)

And a whole lot of other things that I cannot remember…just trust me…it was super duper tasty!
