I believe technology should assist us and enrich our lives. Instead, it is taking over our ability to function without it. In this era, while we are actively building billion dollar companies with the sole purpose of connecting people, there are more and more who are lonely, disconnected and unhappy every single day. Are we heading in the right direction? Are we building a society which is empowering each other? Are we using technology in the right way to make this world a better place? With technology, if we pretty much have all the resources that are needed to lead a happy, successful and prosperous life. Why aren't we using it in the right way? Who tells us how to use these tools? I ponder...
A few weeks back I went to "Umpqua National Forest" in Southern Oregon's Cascade Range with my family and friends. One of the translations of the word "Umpqua" means "thundering waters." After visiting this place, the name "Umpqua" makes perfect sense. Across the Umpqua river, there are multiple waterfalls which seems never to end. By the time we reached this place, it was dark and had to take a break before our next journey. There was only one lodge in that area "Steamboat Inn." A beautiful scenic lodge across Umpqua River. While planning this trip, I came across this place and was contemplating the idea of staying there someday. It was out of my budget then. Strangely, life has its ways of bringing things together when we genuinely wish for something. And here I was in Steamboat Cafe which served one vegetarian dish and one non-vegetarian dish and my coffee&tea.
This place neither has a phone network nor internet access. The only place we got entry to outer world was while we were in the cafe or library in Steamboat Inn. At first, it felt strange, and as if we were not accustomed to this situation. I am sure that one of the main issues we all had was how to upload our photos to the social media without internet. Isn't it the normal and natural thing to do these days?
