An encounter with a small bird with big toes

A treecreeper, treecreeping and putting those extraordinary claws to excellent use

I got a super view of a lovely little bird today - a treecreeper. It was behaving in the manner that is typical for these birds, that is, to fly from the top of one tree to the bottom of the next and to circle the trunk all the way up then repeat the process ad infinitum, looking for small insects to eat along the way. Its plumage looked very fresh and ready for the mating season.

any spiders in here?

Only when I looked at my images on the back of the camera did I see the amazingly long claws - this bird clearly won't fall off anything!

the caws just look too big!

I’ve only spotted tree-creepers from a distance, I didn’t realise they had that huge thumb!!
