Abandoned Tyre

The Illegal Tyre
From George Ricardo Watts - HMP Lowdham Grange

I’m a bit like an illegal tyre
I’ve still got some tread left
But I’m under the legal limit
Not bald, but getting there
And if I don’t slow down soon
The canvas will start to show
Years ago
When I was fresh from the factory
I was full of bounce
I had deep, grooved, zigzag tread
And huge radial grip
I lived in the fast lane
And could handle any surface
Mud, motorway, mountain hairpin
And any conditions
Rain, ice, sleet, snow
But the miles of constant running
Speeding and cornering too fast
Have stripped the rubber from me
Worn me down
So have all the wheel spins
Hand brake turns, and emergency stops
Now I don’t go too fast
A: because I don’t want to attract
Police attention, and
B: I don’t feel too safe anymore
Also I’ve found I go flat easily
(Too many punctures)
And an unsightly bulge appears
If I don’t watch myself
I might need a new valve soon…

Love the second photo,,, kind of sad and lonely, and goes very well with the words.

what perfect images for the text. the poem is a metaphor for life and growing old. i just love it. i am going to print it out for my father. he is a 70 year old old race car driver and will relate to this quite well.

i love the 2nd photo. the placement of the tire in the corner with all the spacious water around it.

La première photo est presque une abstraction qui va bien avec les mots !

Boa!! Gosto da dois! Embora tem um ar desolado, um pneu abandonado algures, é melhor assim do que vê-lo arder à volta do pescoço de alguém... uiii
