MY NORWAY TRIP DIARY: 5th DAY - ISKRA - STAVANGER

by Antonio Gil October. 19, 2014 3513 views

Sailing Vessel ORP ISKRA is one of a few Polish Navy training ships. The Main purpose of the ship is to train cadets from Polish Naval Academy during their practices.
The ship was built in Gdansk Shipyard.
ORP ISKRA is the second sailing ship in Polish Navy with such name. The ship took her name and traditions after a wooden, three – masted gaff schooner ISKRA which sailed under the Polish Navy ensign for 50 years between 1927 and 1977.
ORP ISKRA is a three – masted barquentine with different rigging on all three masts. The foremast has a square sail, the mainmast an auric sail and the mizzenmast a bermuda sail.
Since 1987, she has been participating in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships’ Races.
The letters ORP before the name are the abbreviation: “Ship of the Republic of Poland”, which indicates that the ship belongs to the Polish Navy.

The name “ISKRA” itself means “spark”.

Superbe prise de vue en noir et blanc de ce bateau avec ce soleil voilé derrière le mât.

the image of the ship itself tells quite a story. but i love reading about it. it makes it all so much deeper. and i love the lines in the last one too.

I love #2 too!
I had to go back and look at the horizon, I hadn't noticed as my eyes were taken by the boat!

#2 is very impressive with a great sky. I do wish you had straightened the horizon, but perhaps that would have cropped important parts of the composition.
