The fortress of Oranje was founded on 26 May 1607 by Cornelis Matclief de Jonge and was named the Fort of Oranje by Francois Wiltlentt in 1609 during the reign of Sultan Mudaffar. This oranje fort was originally derived from the former an old fort built by the Portuguese and inhabited by the Malays so that it is named Benteng Melayu. Located in the center of Ternate City precisely in Kelurahan Gamalama which is located at Jalan Hasan Boesoeri, Ternate Tengah, Ternate, North Maluku. With such a strategic location makes this fort easier to visit the tourists.
