Amusing KL ~ Bekam

Kuala Lumpur is ever amusing.
This is especially so for those with wandering eyes and a camera in hand, even just a simple point-and-shoot or a handphone camera.
I shot these with my N95 handphone which has a camera of 5 megapixel. I was at a Saturday ‘pasar tani’ or farmers market buying some freshwater fish, vegetable and meat recently when I noticed this ‘Bekam’.
It's a Chinese traditional treatment so said effective to get rid of wind from the body. Using bamboo cut-outs it's been practised by many other races too now including the Malays and Indians.
Well, don't know much about traditional medicines or practices to elaborate. I shot these just for this photography hobby of mine. And, am glad to share these with you.

well, these certainly are not cupcakes…

noticed the yellow bamboo cutouts used to suck wind from the body? in the Malay language this traditional practice it's called ‘bekam buluh’ as it uses bamboo (buluh). other types are ‘bekam cawan’ if cups are used and some even used bottles (bekam botol).

i asked this guy later how it felt like. know what he answered? he said his body felt lighter and his headache was gone immediately after. however, he added that he's ready for the itchiness at all those spots which will be felt later…

any regrets? he said a definite ‘NO’. he admitted that he's been getting this ‘bekam buluh’ treatment every three or four months once especially when even 1000mg of paracetamols won't work for his headache.
how much does it cost him? FREE, he said, as the traditional herbal medicine man who treated him needed a model to attract customers to his stall. And tell you what… he really attracted dozens and dozens of eyes.
