Bukit Tinggi, Indonesia revisited

by Asiamack September. 28, 2011 220 views

Am fortunate enough to be able to re-visit Bukit Tinggi, in the West Sumatra province of Indonesia last week. As its name suggest Bukit=Hill, Tinggi=High, it's a highland that was once the capital of Indonesia.

The weather may not be as cold as it used to be but other attractions are still there. The obvious attraction is the Minangkabau roof, a unique roof said to be designed based on the shape of buffalo horn. It's an identity of the province, of the Minang race in a larger Malay family.

In Malaysia, the unique roof is shared by the Minangs in Negri Sembilan, an earlier destination of migrants from Ranah Minang (West Sumatra).
