Met a family of long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), native to urban Singapore. There are only 65 species of mammals left here and these monkeys are one of them. Although common in most parks, they still need protection due to the rapid development of this island state.
I could watch them all day and they kept a safe distance from me while still curious with what I was doing (snapping photos!). When they tried to approach me, I backed bit by bit in order not to provoke the alpha male keeping watch at a distance. I was also worried if they snatched my bag as irresponsible park-goers sometimes feed them and tip the balance. These act will leave them dependent on humans for food and many other domino effect that can threaten their existence in Singapore.
As much as I'd like to stay, I had to go so I walked past them while the alpha male looked on. I wish them well.
