The Giant Banyan Tree in Lahaina, Maui

More info about this tree HERE. [lahaina.com]

Meet this strange character, the second largest Banyan tree in the world.

He came from India, merely 137 years ago.

He grew so big, he covers 2/3rd of an acre, or an entire city block.

I found it impossible to find a single angle that would give an idea how spread out and huge this tree is…

Compared to other Banyan trees, this one has almost horizontal branches, growing fairly low to the ground and where the arial roots touch the ground, the tree starts growing another trunk…

This is the center tree, the original one, that was planted in front of the Courthouse by…

…who was the sheriff of Old Lahaina Town

These banyon trees are so marvelous! Loved the ones we saw on Kauai. They said it was in the movie Jurassic Park. Love the colors in that knot shot, #5!
