Hubby and I loved Hobart. The good thing is that now we can fly direct from Perth to Hobart whereas when we did this trip, we had to fly via Melbourne. So that is a good reason to visit again. We could easily spend another week in Hobart, savouring the great food and wineries south which we did not do this time. Plus I believe Buny Island is a cool place to visit.
Salamanca Street near the harbour is the best place for fantastic restaurants and bars. The famous Salamanca markets are here as well - not to be missed. We ate at the Grape Food & Wine Bar and the Ball and Chain Grill.
We stayed right on Elizabeth Pier at the harbour at a place called Somerset-on-the-Pier. I wanted to lash out for hubby as he had been driving our small Hertz Van for the past week :) Ahhhh..... luxury at last .... and with a fabulous view :)
The best way to see Hobart is to book the hop-on-hop-off red bus. We booked it for 2 days. This enabled us to enjoy this cute city at leisure and also taking in the famous Cascade Brewery where I had fabulous Chili Muscles for lunch, washed down with good ale. Plus great sightseeing of the old colonial houses along the way.
