Belize. What an adventure!
When I found Belize on google, I knew that we had to visit. I was looking for a unique place on the Caribbean coastline that had some interesting off the path stuff to do.
We stayed in a cabin at the Howler Monkey Resort in the jungle with views over the river and of course surrounded by howler monkeys. I discovered their howl and I couldn't wait to be there to hear it first hand.
Having said that, the Howler Monkey Resort was very rustic. But the family that owns it went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Breakfast was wonderful and they took us on boat tour, trip to Lamani Mayan Ruins and the Belize Zoo which was amazing.
We saw Howler monkeys, Iguana lizards, Toucans and killer ants. By killer ants, I mean the local leaf cutter ants and the black ants that swarm through when you least expect it. These ants were scary. We formed a line going back to our cabin at night - son, me and hubby. Jesse led the way with the torch and we marched in line close behind. Yes.... I marched as I did not want to ruin the leaf cutter ant line and have them attack! That worked out good. But those black ants...
The black cleaner ants decided to surround our cabin ....... the day we were booked for our boat cruise. All we had to do was run down the hill to the boat. Easy. ...... Not for me. I jumped over the black ants and took the path. Not quick enough. They were attacking me!! Slippery path down the the boat... I slid and ended up falling on my butt! ......
Thank goodness the fellas were able to haul me into the boat before those evil ants cleaned me up too.
And they say Australia has some killer wildlife!! Sheesh!! lol.
