The National Monument was built to pay homage to the servicemen killed during the two World Wars and the Malayan Emergency. By extension, it honours all individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty throughout Malaysia's history. Malaysia celebrated Warrior's day on 31 July each years at National Monument.

For the first time on 31 July this year, Warrior??s Day on Saturday will be commemorated at Merdeka Square in the federal capital with no laying of wreaths or observing a minute of silence.

This weekend??s celebration has been adjusted to be in line with several religious rulings or fatwa made by the National Fatwa Council..
