You know that feeling when you're driving somewhere and just have to stop to capture the stunning view? That's exactly what happened when we were driving homes the other day and saw this swamp by the side of the road.
The warm autumn sun inspired us to take a walk along the duckboards and to pirate J's luck, he was in the company of a sharp-eyed cranberry "expert" who spotted the tiny red berries.
So off he went running back to the car to put on his rubber boots. You see, pirate J had never before in his life picked cranberries and the excitement was unbearable.
Meanwhile, waiting for pirate J to get back I picked all the berries I could reach from the duckboards. He, always taking it one step further, jumped into the swamp giving his rubber boots a chance to live up to their promises.
And of course, as we have grown accustomed to here in North Karelia, you always have a moment to share with any stranger you meet. This lady even shared her cranberry jam recipe.
It was definitely worth the pitstop.
