Melissa and I took a late-summer 3-day vacation to a cute little hotel in South Yarmouth where they had an indoor pool and hottub, and outdoor pool, and a private beach right on Nantucket Sound. We knew it would be cool and rainy, but a get-away was much needed, and we were perfectly happy to sit on the beach in sweatshirts and listen to the ocean.

mmm, ocean. and the sand was so soft!

the beach had a swingset! who could ask for more??

the view from the little balcony off of our room

No trip to Cape Cod would be complete without mini-golfing at Pirate's Cove! Brian came down to spend Friday with us, and since the rain held off on Friday afternoon, we went straight to see the pirates! (photo by Brian)

pirate mini golf!!

On Saturday, we squeezed in a trip to the lovely town of Chatham before the rain picked up. We wandered in and out of cute shops, then wandered down to the water

an interesting view out of the back door of Yankee Ingenuity, a fascinating shop that Brian had suggested we check out, and he wasn't wrong

not the best shot, but an adorable typical blue/gray Cape Cod beach house, with a view right out on to the ocean

Chatham Bars Inn - we drove past so we could say we saw it, and it's really beautiful. Maybe next time, when it isn't so dreary, and we weren't quite so full from a delicious tuna melt, we'll stop in for a schnazzy drink or two.

Watching the sky get darker and darker on Saturday evening, and listening to the ocean
