Model Aeroplanes

by Brett Johnson October. 19, 2020 271 views

A few years back I decided I would get back into model aircraft building. In my normal manner I got obsessed and built heaps! Then I gave them all away to a little aviation museum. It was the building not owning them I loved. These days I still build a model aeroplane at the rate of 1 per year, in much larger scale with super details. I keep some of them and give some away.

So many model airplanes. I think you must feel very honored to be a collector.

Nice collection - We all need a hobby (or two!)
I've been building kits on and off since before I was 10, so a long time now. Fortunately I do now have the space to put them in cabinets as they tend to be dust traps as you undoubtedly know! I'm currently working on a 1/32 Avro Lancaster. Seemed like a good idea at the start but now but now its coming together its a bit unwieldly but I'll get there!

Thank you sir, I have a 1/32 HK Models Lancaster to do, and have the same problem. I think that next year I will build it as well as a Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito and Beufighter (not all in one year) and get a cabinet made to house that collection. Then if I only keep those 5 models I will be happy. They attract so much dust, unless in a case, hence almost all of the models that I have built are given away to two local museums.

It is ages ago since I build a model. Always loved it. You got the A10 thunderbolt, one of my favourite planes

G'day Peter, I adore the A10. We actually got close to one years ago and everything about it is amazing! I will find the photos soon!

I have 68,000 images to sort - going back to 1974 - I started photography at 12, (scans through to digital). This exercise is very emotional. Really happy pictures and lots of very good friends, puppy dogs, family etc that are no longer with us. Things that I am really proud of, and things that I think üuuurrrrggghhh - if only!"."

And if I could advise my teenage photographer self now it would be buy a Leica M6, 3 lenses and shoot everything and anything and store it well. I look at the early digital period which I embraced, i.e. 1995 to 2004 and gee I made a lot of rubbish pictures!
