Too old for metal

I went for a weekend trip to Hungary, to see Metallica live for the 6th time. I saw them twice in Hungary before, twice in Finland, and last time in Austria two years ago.

My flight was scheduled to land a few minutes before the gates of the stadium opened, so I was a bit worried about missing some part of the gig. Considering the recent flight traffic disruptions caused by the volcanic ash, the whole trip was in a risk. Luckily everything went well, the plane landed in time, my buddy Szeg picked me up at the airport, and we were drinking beer in front of the stage well before the first supporting act started.

Everything considered, the gig was quite a disappointment. The supporting bands seriously lacked the volume, neither did they have access to the big screens. I was very much looking forward to see Volbeat, and they certainly tried hard, but it was impossible to kick ass on a giant stage without sound and special effects.
Metallica sounded better, and starting with Creeping Death was promising. Unfortunately they soon switched to newer material, playing 4 songs from Magnetic in the middle of the gig, it was extremely boring. At the end they played Motorbreath and Seek and Destroy, but that was way too late. For me it is just hard to accept the absence of Whiplash and Battery.

Let's hope the 7th time will be much better, I am going to see them again in Switzerland one month from now. That concert will also feature Slayer, Megadeth and Motörhead, so even with Metallica underperforming it is guaranteed to be a blast.
