For many years I have enjoyed watching the Sandhill Cranes migrate through my home state of Nebraska (which I have missed for several years now since moving away). This year, being back in the state, I had access to a blind along the Platte River during sunset.

The Cranes had already begun to congregate in the river when we arrived nearly an hour before sunset.

I do not own any super telephoto lenses myself but my brother let me borrow his Canon 400mm f/5.6 for the evening.

As more Cranes came they began to gather close to the blind with quite a few coming within 100 ft. This is by far the best view I've had from a blind.

A beautiful sunset to top it off...
Amazing sequence of great pictures of this migration
