Weekly Theme 2017 Week 1: Miyajima, Japan (1/5)

Greetings from Hiroshima, Japan

For the first PhotoBlog Weekly Theme of 2017, we're encouraging everyone who is currently doing a 365 project to enter their posts this week, and those who haven't started one to get a feel for what it's like with a One Week Project. Read the full weekly theme announcement here.

I'm currently traveling through Japan, from Fukuoka to Tokyo over 9 days. I'll be posting my favorite photos I'm taking each day throughout the week.

I started out yesterday with a visit to the atomic bomb dome and memorial museum in Hiroshima. Later, I took the tram and ferry to Miyajima. I took this picture on the walk along the waterfront, past wild but tame deer begging for food, to Itsukushima Shrine.

I spotted a good photo opportunity when the boy in red ran down to the water's edge with his sister in tow. The red wooden buildings belong to Itsukushima Shrine.

P.S. This is my 2nd attempt at developing the RAW file. I had accidentally created an odd ghost-like effect on some of the buildings and human elements on my 1st go. Thanks to Antonio Gil and Quang Ho for pointing that out to me!

So many interesting things in this shot - not only the boy in red, but the girl following, and all the people on the pier taking pictures. I also love how most of the scene is shades of gray and muted greens, but the red burns through.

Thanks Jill, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed this shot so much. It's one of my favorites that I've taken. This particular lens I was using that dau (Canon 24-105 f4 L) has a sweet-spot at f/6.3 that I think produces some great quality images.
