Living Firewalls Budapest Group Project - Klauzal 13 bookstore and gallery

The Living Firewalls Budapest Group has made an international call for the decoration of three fire-walls of Belső-Erzsébetváros (also known as Budapest Jewish quarter). The idea was to create fine art works.

The group lives in Erzsébetváros and is dealing with the problem of fire-walls since years - as humongous unused surfaces and as visual units of city landscape.

István Ocztos, leader of the project and owner of the idea has chose three of the fire-walls of the area and made an international call for fine art works. His aim was first of all to restore some of the fire-walls in the 7th district and also to place the fine art works on them. Until now there have been 47 artists sending 152 plans from Europe, Asia, America and Australia. As fire walls have similar shapes, the artworks can be adopted to different locations easily, and thus the project could be expanded to the wider area of Budapest.

The materials will be projected from slides in the exhibition hall of the Klauzál 13.
László Beke pHd. art historian, director of the Art History Research Institute of the Hungarian Scientific Academy, István Ocztos and Gábor Juhász, vice-mayor of Erzsébetváros will discuss the project. If the weather will be fine, we will make a small tour to see the locations.
