I finally made my trip to korea again (after 5 years).
this time, I went alone! (: but unfortunately, I went during the hottest ever ever summer in korea and temperatures went up to 38 degrees celsius !!
I didn't make the trip to Jeju the last time I went korea in 2013, so this was a first for me and I was trying to navigate without driving around - what a challenge it was. But I survived, thankfully (:
Jeju is really a beautiful island, I could see why honeymooners like this destination! The photos turn out pretty nice with the bright sunlight, but there weren't many clouds, so you can't imagine how terribly melting hot it was to stand under the sun to snap a photo.
Great if I can get a good shot, good composition with no photo bombers. Snap and move along!
The blue waters, blue skies. So beautiful really. Udo Island is a tiny island at the right most corner of Jeju, you can take a short 15-20mins ferry to get there from Seongsan Port. You can finish this tiny island in one circular travel direction in about 2 hours, provided that you have some form of motorised transport eg. motorbikes, ATVs etc. I still got lost once or twice because all the signs were in korean, so I waited at a junction until some tourists came along then I followed them haha.
Udo island can be done in half a day, so after that I took a 20-min walk to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (also called Sunrise Peak).
I read that it was an easy trek up, 45 mins up. So I planned to head over around sunset time - 5.30-6pm, hoping that it would be less hot. It is still hot regardless, but the trek was easy, just many steps and they have sufficient rest stops and benches along the way for you to take a breather.
All I saw was a grass-filled crater hahah. But I think it was worth the easy hike up. I had no plans to do Mt Hallasan - this would have taken 10-hours round trip, and killed my knees. So, no thanks- though this made up for a pretty good view. I would recommend if you're average fitness and don't want to conquer the Mt Hallasan like me.
