I've shown you around Rotterdam (The Netherlands) in November last year. One of the most iconic buildings - or better: group of buildings - there is the cube houses by architect Piet Blom. Doesn't ring a bell ? Look here and it will.
But did you know that those cube houses are not the only ones in The Netherlands ? And did you know that they were not even the first ? Well, you know now. The cube houses in Helmond were the first. They are not yellow like the ones in Rotterdam, but there were more of them in Helmond: 3 were built in 1974; 18 were constructed in 1977, surrounding a theatre which consisted itself of 37 cubes.
Sadly enough the theatre was destroyed by a fire in 2011. In that same fire a number of the cube houses around it were hit too, but those were repaired. In this post and the next a few views of the Helmond cube houses.
