Szigliget (Hungary/Magyarország) - The castle - part 1

by Björn Roose June. 12, 2019 345 views

Szigliget is, just like Tihany (see here, here and here) and a few other towns and villages I've posted about before, on the banks of Lake Balaton (Hungary).

The settlement has been there since the neolithic age, although it was originally ... on an island (sziget in Hungarian). In 1822 the island got connected to the mainland by rearrangement of the bank-dams around the lake.

High above the village, there's this castle. While my girlfriend remained in the village (and made a few sketches) I of course had to climb up and see the ruins ...

Nice set! What kind of structure is that in #1?

This is the kind of stuff I come on Photoblog to find! This castle reminds me of a fort here in India similar in style & feel (it is also located in a small town called Jhansi). Thanks for sharing this..

And thank you, Varsha. The world is not a village, but sites like PhotoBlog do make it easier to travel from one side to an other (and find out there's lots of resemblances) smile

You have way too much imagination smile It's a well. Nowadays they are sealing of these things because apparently people are more stupid than in the middle ages and jump in them ...

Do you ever wonder how at this day and age people can be so stupid? I am always aghast. How did this happen, what were they thinking? Bizarre.

I try not to wonder anymore. A friend of mine gave me a present long ago, a book with the title "Dumbing down - Essays on the strip-mining of American culture". I have not had the chance to read it yet, but the dumbing down is absolutely not limited to American culture ...

Well, at least here Mark Dice (whom I got to know as a vlogger via this kind of videos) did find two intelligent people in the end:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-Be9f7Ovgg
