August 18 - Church (#PhotoBlog365)

We came back last night from our holiday in Croatia. In the last two weeks we've been driving through Flanders (my home region), The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Hungary, with overnight stops in Graz (Austria) and Augsburg (Germany) and longer stays in Zagreb and Osijek (both Croatia), so we've seen and visited quite a number of churches along the way.

I'll just make it easy on myself today and give you a photo of one of the very impressive icons in one of the churches we visited yesterday in Augsburg, the Sankt Ulrich und Afra Basilika. Some of the icons in the treasury were "just" painted, most of them were painted and decorated with silverwork and, in this case, enamel.

The face has almost a photographic quality to it. Nice shot!
