Berlin (Deutschland/Germany) - Alte Nationalgalerie - Franz von Stuck

Franz von Stuck was heavily inspired by Arnold Böcklin (see here). Since I like his paintings very much, it is not strange I liked this one by von Stuck too.

And yes, I did put the frame into the picture this time. It is not just a frame, von Stuck paid much attention to the frames, generally designed them himself, and considered them an integral part of the overall piece.

In this painting, Tilla Durieux als Circe, you see the actress Tilla Durieux as Circe, goddess of magic and daughter of Helios (mother uncertain).

So glad you chose to put the frame in. It is outstanding both the painting and the frame. Love the colors, love the wicked look. Excellent capture!

Thanks, Camellia. And the frame does indeed contribute to the work. I think it is really a "Gesamtkunstwerk", also given the fact that the painter depicted an actress in it.
