Filipina of Southern Mindanao in Traditional Dress

An insight on how Filipinos from Southern Mindanao celebrate Filipino Festival in California , I was there to take some shot which i posted on my 3rd day as a member of photoblog ,This is one of the remaining image taken by my brother , their culture even though mix with western culture still remain in their heart and blood , pass through generation , They are so proud of their ethnic roots..not like the one i attended which dress up in Hawaiian which we are not really.Yes we are pacific islanders but not Polynesian or Hawaiian..We are Asian and we are the only “ Pearl of the Orient ”! we have a diverse ethnic culture , And we should be proud of it..

This is for Lei ( Dream15554) for being a true blooded Subanon of Zamboanga ( City of Flowers ) , Mindanao , even though the peace situation in their part of the Island is still volatile she has the time to share to us some of their landscape , flowers , Fruits and cultures…
I remember when Marcos declared martial law and do some military zoning through out the Island Republic , Particularly severe was the military zoning in Mindanao, where sitios( small community) and barrios ( large villages) were overnight turned to nightmarish massacre sites and annihilation of helpless diverse hinterland tribes of Subanons.( suba means river nons means people) “ Subanon massacre in Karpok” so sad that i will not forget that day in the 70's.
How in the world did they massacre families after families including children? what have they done wrong to make our brother from the south almost disappear from Philippines history?

Thank you so much for viewing…

A poignant narrative. The brutality of humans seems like part of our DNA. It just keeps popping out. Every culture has blood on its hands.

I love the portrait...and you should be very proud of your heritage. I'm sorry that your wonderful memories of your beautiful country have to filled with so much violence and sadness. Unexplainable how people can do such horrible acts to others.
