This modest little group is pay dirt for me. Cashews, dates, figs, a caloric indulgence, bottled water and coarse salt. I have located a grocery store.
That it took me two weeks to find something like a grocery store will give you an idea how difficult it's been to find my way around. The city outside the hotel is crowded and chaotic. Smog, touts, beggars, humidity, crowds, very loud traffic and very rough sidewalks sometimes make me wish I'd stayed in. Inside, the air conditioning is adjustable, the TV is widescreen, my room is spruced up twice a day, and my laundry reappears clean, pressed and on hangers. Sometimes it feels like a luxurious prison. Weekends, when I don't have work to distract me, can be very long.
The good news, especially for my blog, is that I got out again and have many more street scene photos. I'll post them over the next several days.
