Day 43, Wednesday, May 18, 2011.

We took a short drive of 47 miles north today for a 24 hour stay at the RV Resort at Cannon Beach, Oregon.

Total trip mileage is now 3,279.

There are iconic scenery shots in every direction here.

Tomorrow we plan an early morning walk on the beach, a stop by a great local bakery and then a mid-day departure from Oregon into Washington for one more night on the road before arriving back home on Friday.

Thanks for stopping by,

The small town of Wheeler as we drove along Route 101 from Tillamook to Cannon Beach today.

My first view of Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach looking from south to north.

That's Tillimook Lighthouse on top of that rock 1 1/2 miles off the coast. It had a First Order Fresnel lamp until a terrible storm pitched a large rock right through the lightroom. Today there is a beacon and a horn one mile further out to sea to warn ships of the coastal hazards. The story of building this lighthouse in the 1880s is amazing (it never should have been built here in the first place).

Just a look at the surf near where we are standing on the beach.

A fellow traveller:)

An interesting alignment…for me anyway…
The closest body of water is Ecola Creek as it empties into the ocean.

Ecola State Park viewpoint is on top of the bluff in the center of the picture.

This scene was taken from the Ecola State Park viewpoint southward toward Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock.

Lots of birds nest among the rocks.

The village/town of Cannon Beach all along the sandy beaches.

Our camping space in the RV Resort at Cannon Beach.

Looking down the street from our camping site.

Sorry I'm late, snowed under at 'The Plant' :-)
Well I hope they never told the guys who built Tillamook Lighthouse, "it's in the wrong place", or maybe they did, and got the answer "well you move it!"...great scenery, water still looks a bit choppy for 'skinny dippin'. Wheeler looks like it's been there for a while, and not changed too much, that's nice....take care...
