Behind the Glitter

Inspired by Jolien's post Looking up, I wanted to share this picture of me taking this picture. I was playing with my (then) new camera and lens in the kitchen when I noticed my reflection off the black granite counter top. When I adjusted the focus manually on the reflected image of myself, the glittering copper bits embedded in the counter top blurred to interesting small round golden lights. Surprised by this pleasing effect, I quickly pressed the shutter button to capture the image. It's not a very sharp photo, but I think the outcome is kind of interesting.

An unplanned capture of myself holding my Sony Alpha 6000 camera and hovering above a black kitchen counter top.

Very nice capture, Benny. Until I read your description I thought you had used some lights to create the sparkles and the bokeh, but the fact that they came about  due to the items in the kitchen and your adjustment of the focus is even more intriguing. I really like the photo, definitely and inspiring one for me.

Very interesting, indeed. I always like bokeh in a photograph. This would be one way to get that effect.
