African Creatures

On my previous post, I shared a few photos of domestic animals that I took 12 years ago on my first trip to Africa. Now I'm going to share a few more African animal photos taken on subsequent trips a few years later. Nothing to be too excited about, though. I still never got to visit a game reserve to photograph exotic animals in the wild, so some of these photos are merely of ordinary creatures like dogs and cats. Sorry to disappoint you, but here they are.

These giraffes were photographed at the Giraffe Center in Nairobi, Kenya. There is a building there where you can stand and wait for them to come to you for you to feed them. I never tried that myself, but I was told that their tongue is really rough and sticky.

The napping king! A male lion taking an afternoon nap in the shade. I got so close to him I could almost touch him. No, I'm not that brave. There was actually a metal fence between us.

Grumpy puppy. I met these puppies in a Masai village in Kenya. This one was a little grumpy but still cute.

An African magpie perched on the roof top of a shed at a hotel in Nairobi where I was staying. It was very close to the Westgate shopping mall where a terrorist attack took place three months later in 2013.

This cat came up to me a few times while I was eating at the hotel restaurant in Nairobi. I think it was hoping to get some treats from me.

I almost didn't include it! The grey background that looks like a grid is actually a big glass window of a tall commercial building across the street.

The puppy is cute as can be. Your photos really brought back memories. I think I told you I was in Africa the 70's and in Nairobi as well. But I think the Nairobi of the 70's was quite different than the one you saw 12 years ago.  Your photos inspired me to scan some of those photos I took at that time with a point and shoot. The beauty of  photography.....can bring back so many memories smile Thank you for sharing, Benny.

The Nairobi today is definitely very different than the one in the 70's. I look forward to seeing your photos from the time you were there. It will be like looking at history half a century back. It's nice that we have platforms like PhotoBlog to share our images and memories with others.
