Trams of Lisbon

by Benny Law June. 11, 2020 561 views

I have been really busy again with work from different sources for the past few days, but tonight, I managed to find some time to finish processing a small batch of photos from my Lisbon collection. They are all photos of trams. There were lots of them in the area where I stayed, and they provided great photo opportunities.

This red tram seems to be for tourists. I snapped this during a scavenger hunt team activity with my team members. We lost the game badly, but it wasn't because I was stopping frequently to take pictures.

A yellow tram in the blue hour looks really sharp. I still can't get over the fact that there are so many cobblestone streets in Lisbon. I wonder how much time it took to pave them.

Some trams are covered in graffiti. This one goes up and down a REALLY steep and narrow street. The tram is actually level, but look at how high the back of the tram is above the ground. This gives you an idea of how steep the street is.

This tram was passing right in front of me. I was expecting this shot to turn out blurry since I wasn't using a fast shutter speed, but somehow, it turned out OK.

But this one actually turned out with some motion blur even though it was shot in daylight. The sunlight on the building on the left was also too bright in the original. I felt I had to convert it to monochrome to save the image. I was going to discard it.

Those are some very nice street scenes. Colour of the trams make it even better grinning

Very nice series. Public transportation is so interesting and such a great motive for street photography.

Thank you, Piotr. I love this kind of street photography, but I only got to do it when I went on business trips. I don't travel much outside of work.

I love Lisbon..so much to see. Great set of shots.  The trams are so distinctive.  Kind of like the ding ding in HK.  I noticed that distinct wavy Portuguese tile pattern in Macau when I was there.

I lived in Hong Kong for 17 years but I have never been to Macau. My daughter who was born and raised in Canada has been to Macau and she loved it there.

Your photos truly make me miss traveling, and Lisbon so far seems like a place I would very much like to....... side story (somehow Benny, you always bring out side stories or memories in me)...when all this crap started around March and things were not looking any better in April, my high school friend and the one I traveled to Australia with started looking into moving out of the country. She and her husband chose Portugal. She did all the homework and sent me all the information and is very much trying to convince us to move with them. Apparently, compared to Nashville (where she lives) the cost of living is much cheaper and life is less strenuous than the States. So your photos really are supporting her beliefs that moving there would be ideal.

I really don't know when I'll get a chance to travel again, so I'm just savoring my own memories too with the help of these photos. It's interesting to know that your friends are planning to move to Portugal and trying to convince you to follow them. My sister-in-law and her husband actually moved there recently from Canada, and apparently, they are loving it there. I still have a few more Lisbon photos, but you will have to wait for me to find time to process them first before posting them.
