Castelo de São Jorge

After a little digression to talk about my little girl, I am coming back to my Lisbon series in this post. The subject this time is a very famous castle which is a must-see attraction to every tourist visiting Lisbon. It is called Castelo de São Jorge which is a historic castle located at the top of São Jorge hill and is the highest point in the city. Because of that, it is visible from almost anywhere in the city including my hotel.

I visited this castle on the second day after I arrived. It was a Sunday, so I had the whole day to explore the city before I had to attend meetings for the rest of the week. I spent the day with three of my colleagues, and we did a lot of walking. Unfortunately, because I was part of a group, I didn't have the full freedom to take my sweet time to shoot as many photos as I wanted.

Anyway, here are a few of the images I managed to capture. The first one was actually taken later that week while I was on a scavenger hunt as part of a team-building activity (I really dislike those silly things).

The castle situated on top of a hill overlooking the whole city. What do you find the most striking in this photo?

Close-up of one of the towers of the castle. The upper part looks newer than the lower part. It must have gone through a reconstruction or restoration process.

The bridge in front of the main entrance of the castle. I guess this was filled with water in the past.

The same tower shot from a different angle. The difference in the bricks is quite evident here.

Sunset inside the castle. I almost discarded this photo because in the original, the sky was all blown out with no colour. Eventually, Affinity Photo saved it because it enabled me to put some light blue and orange back into the sky.

If you missed my previous post in this series, here it is: Trams of Lisbon

Until next post, stay well my friend. Adeus!

Very nice captures Benny. And yes I am so with you on those stupid, stupid team building activities. I hated those and I am thankful I don't have to do them anymore grinning

Maybe I'll be spared from those from now on thanks to the social distancing measures brought on by COVID-19. smile
