Introducing Alfie

by Benny Law September. 27, 2020 760 views

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Alfie, a friendly and adorable eight month old Alaskan malamute. No, Alfie is not my dog. She is my "granddaughter". You see, my daughter who got married in June (see this post) has told me that she is not going to have any kids and that I will have to settle for a canine "granddaughter". She has always wanted a dog (or two), and now that she has her own home, nothing is going to stop her. And nothing is going to convince her that it's still a good thing to raise human kids nowadays. Given the mess that the world is in and the direction it's headed, I can't honestly blame her.

Ever since my daughter got Alfie, she has been urging me to take some photos of her (Alfie) and post them on my blog. She has assured me that this will cause a huge jump in the number of my followers. Well, I guess I will know soon if she is right. 🙂 Anyway, I recently invited myself for dinner at her place, so I took the opportunity to take a few photos of my "granddaughter" while my daughter was busy cooking curry fish balls. (That may warrant a separate post.)

So, without further ado, I give you... Alfie!

Alfie's portrait. This was shot in my daughter's kitchen under the ambient lighting. The black background is the exposed side of the stainless steel fridge. Alfie was just lying down beside the fridge relaxing.

Although we haven't known each other for long, Alfie and I do get along very well. In fact, every time I visit, she would get super excited at the door. She would lick me all over until I'm covered with her saliva and would dash between my legs and circle me. She would also jump up and put her paws on me. I really enjoy her warm welcome, although not so much her saliva on me. I may wear a raincoat next time to avoid getting wet. 😁

Sorry, these are the only photos that are good enough to post. Let me know if you would like to see more of Alfie, and I will post some more when I have them.

I'm a dog lover! My Son & His Wife told me the same thing!
So, I have grand-puppies, instead of grandchildren, too,
which is just fine with me!!!
Great shots of this lovely lady!
Sorry to be so tardy in response. I've been traveling for the last month. Hope to be back home in a week. It's 2500 miles across country, but I love every minute of it.....I think I have long distance trucker genes....smile
Hope the New Year & years to come, find you & yours healthy, safe & joyous!
Love & Blessings!

ps. thanks for "liking" my image, as well!
pss...thanks for "following" my blog, as well!

So good to hear from you, Jay. I guess even lockdowns can't suppress those "long distance trucker genes". 😁 Maybe you can share some pics of your grand-puppies some day. Enjoy what's left of your trip and stay safe and well. Best wishes to you and yours for the new year!

Thanks, for the good wishes, Amigo!
I'd go crazy, or should I say crazier, if I was confined for almost any length of time.....
I don't think I'd last a week, if I was imprisoned.......
I'll post a picture of our one, remaining canine, who is named "Happy".
He's a rescue dog of mixed breeds. He's a real character!
Salud/Cheers!
smile

ps...thanks for "liking"so many of my images!!!

Hey David, I wish you and yours well. Haven't had the time or heart to post anything since my mom passed in October. Maybe I'll do one in her memory when I find the time.

No problem Benny.  Sorry for your loss.  I haven't been on here much lately either.  Just too busy unfortunately.  May 2021 be much better than 2020.  Hope you feel better soon.  Cheers.

I would! I would! Benny I would love to see more photos!! I think these are fabulous captures. Her face in #1 is just adorable.
I don't blame your daughter as far as not wanting to have kids in this era. My husband and I are forever thanking the higher beings for not having young kids now. Although, even for our adult "kids" the future is scary. Your posts always bring out memories of such for me. As long as I can remember I have had dogs in my life. A Poodle, a full fledged German Shephard, a Mut, another German Shephard (all white) and lastly a SHIT zu (Shih Tzu) whom I had to put to sleep a couple of months ago. There is not pet/friend like a dog. The fact that she slobbers over you and looks forward to your visits just shows that recognizes a nice, caring human being. Looking forward to more photos of her. smile

It must have been an awful experience putting your dog to sleep. I have never gone through that myself, but I can surely imagine how difficult it is. When my daughter's hamster was put to sleep when she was younger, she cried her eyes out. I tried to warn her how much harder it would be with a dog, but she said it's still worth it. I guess we are different that way. I would give up the pleasure now to avoid the pain later, but she would have the pleasure now and deal with the pain later.

I agree with her Benny. The pleasure now is way worth the pain later. Somehow we all get over the pain, eventually grinning

As Dr. Seuss famously said, "don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened."

It's definitely a different way of looking at how life should be lived. A more colourful and adventurous way.
